We have a huge reservoir of memories of our years there, beginning when our youngest was 3 years old. There is nothing my kids love more than reminiscing of "the incident when..."
During that time, we created gardens, cut down mature trees, cleared rubbish, farmed animals, renovated the house inside and out. Earthworks, plantings, building, digging, sawing, all became part of our lives during this time. We became quite proficient cutting down 30+ year old pines, taking down a score of these around the house, as well as 200 15-year old pines. Let me tell you, the cutting down is the easy part! I learned how to put up a post-and-rail fence strong enough to keep in cattle and horses. We dealt with the joys and tragedies of birthing calves and lambs, hand raising both when orphaned. I hatched dozens and dozens of chicks on our kitchen bench. Watching a tiny being emerge from an egg that 28 days before was suitable for an omelet is quite incredible. There is nothing like the mystery of a 20g chick trusting an adult as their mother and sleeping in the palm of your hand!
I won't go further in this page into the dramas that we experienced, but here are a few photos of our lovely house and gardens. Everything was done on the tightest of budgets as it had to stretch 12 acres instead of 500 squares! But despite this it was a stylish and beautiful house.
